Satire Rube Goldberg Project
Project Description: For this interdisciplinary project we challenged to design a Rube Goldberg that had a satirical purpose. Along with another satirical project that related to the Rube Goldberg.

Project Reflection:
My satirical piece is targeted at dog breed discretion so the message I'm trying to convey is that the big dogs( generally pit bulls) are labeled as the big mean scary dogs but it is actually the little dogs what you have to watch out for. It is also how these dogs are raised if they are treated badly they will behave badly and so the same is with any dog. The two different satirical devices are juxtaposition and irony. The reason I chose these devices is they came naturally when I designed the art piece. The juxtaposition is where it is showing the expectation and really and it is bringing a light to how dogs are labeled. The irony is how you would think that the little dogs are cuddly and cute where they are the more aggressive ones. For the overall art piece I wanted the viewer to understand what the reality is because you never see a small dog attack someone on the news, all you see is the big dogs like dog fights or police dogs.
In this wonderful project I have learned so much but one of the mane thighs I have learned is about small dog syndrome. Now small dog syndrome is when the little dogs get more aggressive or anxious because they don't feel secure of where they are in the world. They feel helpless and so that is why they try to attack or take down big dogs. This will help me when training and having my dogs. I have a Cocker spaniel and a German Shepherd lab mix. Two very different breeds and after learning about little dog syndrome it makes more sense why my little dog has so much more anxiety rather than my big dog.
In our society satire is used everywhere you look and adds commercial entertainment. They also have a big part in human desensitization. We live in a scary world and there are a lot of jokes about those scary things and we laugh at them when we should help them. There is so much psychology about satire so when someone falls we laugh rather than ask if they're ok or use humor to cover up what you are feeling inside.
Based on the rubric below I believe that I am a 10 because I am focused and prepared and have a handle of what we are learning. Let's use this project for example, I have used my time very effectively by working on my rube at home and satire in the classroom and all of my work is turned in on time. I feel like I have a good grasp on what satire is and how to use it. Looking back at all of this I do feel like I deserve a 10.

Africa Imperialism
For This project each person choose a movement from Africa's colonization and studied it. we then had to write a Op Ed and create a visual piece to represent that movement. For example I did the Woman's War of Nigeria.
What I am most proud of of this project is my Op Ed. I feel like I did a really good job editing, and I am proud of how I worded my writing. For example in the second paragraph of my Op Ed I rounded my writing back out to my thesis. This is one of my favorite parts of my essay.
I had a lot of difficulties in my Op Ed because I have never been a strong writer and I don't do well writing a ton of words. I can be short and strate to the point within a paragraph or two. So getting the 750 words was the biggest challenge I faced. One way I can improve on this next time is get my words on the page then give it to someone to edit and help me get the words.
I learned that I like to be given all of the stuff I need to do and then I will figure out how to manage my time more efficiently. This is good that I learned that this works for me because now I can get stuff done and most likely have time to do other stuff.
I have really grown in my writing through this op ed. I have been able to get the amount of words without rambling on. I also did a good job on pulling and keeping the reader engaged in most of my writing. I start to stray from the topic. For example in the second paragraph I reastated the the theses to bring readers back in.
I think I am a 9 because I have my materials and I get started right away. But online days I sometimes put my stuff off until the last minute. But when we are in person I have a lot of free time because I have all of my assignments done and sometimes I get ahead. I could work on doing my assignments when we are online when I am supposed to do them.
